Bath City Women gave Shield Services Group South West Regional Women’s League Division One North leaders Corsham Town Ladies a very tough afternoon before suffering defeat on Sunday 12th April.

The mid-table Romans led 2-1 at half-time at the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park but ended up beaten 3-2 by a Corsham side who have lost only twice in the league this season.

City took the lead in the 13th minute – with a lovely goal. Bex Fry’s ball found Tara Taylor, who chipped Town’s out-of-position keeper Lily Lewis – and Beth Edwards put away the ball from close range.

However, Corsham were back on terms two minutes later. Bath custodian Lucy Clay blocked a shot from Ruby Nolan but the loose ball fell to Chauntine Lyons, who made no mistake.

The Romans were not fazed and regained their advantage just after the half-hour, Sophie Storey netting direct from a corner.

The Wiltshire team raised their game in the second half and equalised in the 59th minute, Lyons scoring with a prod past Clay despite Abby Gray’s attempts to clear off the line.

And in the 65th minute, Darcey Banfield struck with a 25-yard free-kick to ensure maximum points went back to The SECURE Stadium.

Bath: Lucy Clay, Bex Fry, Abby Gray, Tara Taylor, Maddie Brown, Adella Clarke, Nell Bloomfield, Jasmine Rennie, Eve Trivett, Sophie Storey, Beth Edwards. Subs (all used): Phoebe Walls, Jess Evans, Poppy Spratt, Rosie Burridge, Amy Key.

The Romans’ next match will be a league fixture at Whitchurch Ladies on Sunday 26th April (2pm).

Bath City Women Development had no game on 12th April but will go to winless bottom side Middlezoy Rovers Ladies on Sunday 19th April (2pm) in Somerset County Women’s League Division One.

Odd Down Women, champions of Somerset County Women’s League Division Two, were also out of action on 12th April.

The Down will play their penultimate fixture of the season when they visit Street Women on 19th April (2pm).
