Odd Down’s penultimate match of the season ended in defeat, the Bath club recovering from 3-1 down to equalise at neighbours Bitton on Tuesday 14th April in Jewson Western League Division One but going on to lose 4-3.

The first half was a goal-fest, Bitton – who have just failed to sneak into the play-off places – holding a 3-2 lead at the change of ends.

Watched by a crowd of 63, Aiden Noble gave the hosts a 25th-minute lead but the Down responded only three minutes later through Nicholas Taylor.

A deflected shot from Charlie Roach put Bitton back in front in the 34th minute – and Sonny Parker stretched the advantage to 3-1 with a 37th-minute goal.

But Odd Down reduced the arrears through Alfie Andrews shortly before half-time.

Substitute Stan Dickenson levelled five minutes into the second period but Isaac Comerford notched Bitton’s winner on the hour.

Odd Down: Matthew Green, Lewis Bahadur, Jasper Morris, Josh Howlett, Joe Paradise, Treyvond Anderson, Charlie Saunders (Stan Dickenson, 35, Mitchell Hamber, 85), Toby Davis (Tobey Snelling, 20), Nicholas Taylor, Sam Smith, Alfie Andrews. Unused sub: James Book.

The Down recorded an impressive 3-1 victory at fellow mid-tablers Calne Town in front of 82 spectators on Saturday 11th April.

Josh Howlett gave the travellers a seventh-minute lead that was doubled by Jack Paul shortly before the interval.

Calne clawed one back in the second half but a 70th-minute 20-yarder from Charlie Saunders sealed the win for the visitors.

Paul made his final appearance for Odd Down in the success at the Chilvester Financial Stadium.

A spokesman for the Down said: “The club is sad to announce the departure of Jack Paul following the game. He is going back home to South Africa.

“Jack has been with the U18s for two seasons and has also made fantastic contributions to our first team this season.

“We wish Jack and his family all the very best for the future.”

Odd Down: Matthew Green, Lewis Bahadur, Jasper Morris, Josh Howlett, Joe Paradise, Nicholas Taylor, Charlie Saunders, Tobey Snelling (Toby Davis, 65), Stan Dickenson (Sam Smith, 80), Jack Paul, Alfie Andrews.

The Down will complete their Western League campaign with a trip to Greenbank Recreation Ground in Hanham, where there will face AEK Boco on Saturday 18th April (3pm).

Odd Down Development caused an upset by winning their Dimmock Green Cup quarter-final against Chilcompton Sports Reserves at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground on 14th April.

The Down are top of Trophies of Radstock Mid Somerset League Division One and Chilcompton are likely to finish second in the Premier Division. But the home team emerged 2-1 victors.

Ghassan Saqqa and substitute Bill Turner got the Odd Down goals.

The Devs cruised into the Bryan Wells Charity Cup semi-finals by hammering hosts Haydon Sports 8-2 in the last eight on 11th April.

Haydon, who are struggling in the Mid Somerset Premier Division, found themselves a goal down after just one minute.

The Odd Down scorers were Saqqa (2), Alfie Prescott (2), Kevin Broadi, Luis Himdi, Luke Triglia-Poulton and Abdoulaye Ndiaye.

Prescott was named the victors’ man of the match.

In the Bryan Wells semis, the Devs will take on Meadow Rangers at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground on Tuesday 21st April (6.45pm).

Prior to that, on 18th April, Odd Down Development will receive Weston Village in the Somerset Intermediate Cup semi-finals (2pm).
