Additional fixture at Bath Racecourse provides thrilling evening

Punters were given a thrilling evening’s entertainment when Bath Racecourse staged its additional 2026 meeting on Wednesday 29th April.

The Lansdown track’s extra fixture, gained from Brighton Racecourse, featured an eight-race card – and there were some dramatic finishes in sunny but windy conditions.

In the first race, The Bet Now With fairplaybet.co.uk Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over five furlongs and 160 yards, 7/2 shot Silver Wraith – trained by Emma Lavelle at Ogbourne Maizey, Wiltshire, and ridden by David Probert – won by a neck from runner-up Moe’s Legacy, the 11/8 favourite.

Aboard Moe’s Legacy – from Ron Harris’ yard at Earlswood, Monmouthshire – was Jason Watson.

Next race was The Download The Fairplay App Now EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (Class 5) (EBF Restricted Race Qualifier) over five furlongs and 160 yards.

Winner by five-and-a-half lengths was 6/4 chance Lady Blanche, prepared by Karl Burke in North Yorkshire and with David Egan in the saddle.

Second was 5/4 favourite Dowman, sent out by George Boughey (Newmarket, Suffolk) and piloted by Billy Loughnane.

The third contest, the five-furlong Watch Live Racing On fairplaybet.co.uk Confined Handicap Stakes (Class 5), produced victory by a neck for Law Of Average (7/2) over second-placed Binadham (7/2).

Law Of Average is trained by Chelsea Banham near Newmarket and was ridden by Joey Haynes.

Loughnane was on board Binadham, a four-year-old handled by Kevin Philippart de Foy at Newmarket.

Eutropia (5/2) secured victory for trainer Adrian Wintle (Rodley, Gloucestershire) in the fifth race, The Fairplay Daily Price Boosts Handicap Stakes (Class 6) over one mile, two furlongs and 37 yards.

Partnered by Edward Greatrex, Eutropia came in three-quarters of a length clear of second-placed Endofastorm (4/1), from Joe Ponting’s stables at Hillesley, South Gloucestershire, and with David Probert in the irons.

The fifth race, The fairplaybet.co.uk Bet £20 Get £20 Free Bets Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over one mile, was won by 22/1 outsider Prodigal Son, under jockey Luke Morris and trained by Heather Main at Kingston Lisle, Oxfordshire.

The margin of victory was one-and-a-quarter lengths, Signcastle City – the 10/11 favourite cared for by Richard Hannon at Collingbourne Ducis, Wiltshire, and urged on by Joe Leavy – finishing second.

Loughnane bagged a win when Mohmentous was a 5/1 victor of the sixth race, The Fairplay Handicap Stakes (Class 6), for handler Ollie Sangster (Manton, Wiltshire).

Runner-up, three-and-three-quarter lengths behind, was 4/1 fancy Palazzo Ducale, trained by Tony Carroll near Pershore, Worcestershire, and ridden by Rossa Ryan.

The penultimate contest, the one-mile Watch Live Racing On fairplaybet.co.uk Handicap Stakes (Class 6) (Division One), resulted in a win for the Jonathan Portman-trained Brinton (4/1), under Rob Hornby.

Portman, who is based at Upper Lambourn, Berkshire, celebrated Brinton’s success by a head over runner-up Havana Club (9/2), trained by Wintle and piloted by Finley Marsh.

The closing one-mile Watch Live Racing On fairplaybet.co.uk Handicap Stakes (Class 6) (Division Two) was won by 2/1 favourite Oasis Sunrise, from Grace Harris’ camp at Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, and with Ryan riding.

Oasis Sunrise prevailed by four-and-a-quarter lengths from Baynoona (3/1), sent out by Sue Gardner (Longdown, Devon) and steered by Millie Wonnacott.

Going was firm.

The next meeting at Bath is the Bank Holiday Family Fun Day on Monday 4th May. Children will be admitted free and there will be a host of family activities.
