A 52-year-old man has been arrested by police in connection with the death of 19-year-old Jake Gilmore after the fatal hit and run on Saturday evening.

Jake was killed in the hit and run on Saturday night

At 9.30pm on Saturday 16th November 16, Jake was seriously injured following the hit and run collision on Midland Road Bridge.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and the cyclist, Jake Gilmore, later died.

Yesterday evening police officers on patrol found a VW Golf abandoned near Royal Victoria Park.

The car had damage consistent with the collision and has been seized for forensic examination. Further enquiries were conducted which lead to the arrest of a 52-year-old man from Bath on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is currently in police custody where he will be interviewed about the incident.

Detective Inspector Charlotte Tucker said: “This is a significant development for our investigation and later today we will be interviewing the suspect about the incident.

“We have had an excellent response from the public to this incident and have had people come forward and provide us with useful information. I would like to thank everyone for this response and their support for our investigation so far.”

Police are still appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who can help to contact Bath CID on 101.
