Update – 10am – 19/11/13: A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the hit and run. He is currently in police custody where he will be interviewed about the incident.
Avon and Somerset Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a cyclist was run over and killed near Midland Bridge in Bath last night.
The incident happened between Midland Bridge and Midland Bridge Road at 9.35pm yesterday evening, Saturday 16th November.
The cyclist, a 19-year-old teenager, was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with life threatening injuries after being hit by the car while on his bicycle.
The vehicle involved did not stop at the scene. The cyclist suffered life-threatening head injuries and was found by a passer-by who called for an ambulance. The teenager died from his injuries this morning.
Police closed the road between Green Park and Pines Way for many hours as Collision Investigation Officers investigated the crash.
The collision investigation unit would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident and may have information to help the police by contacting Bath CID on the force number 101, quoting reference 2013.11.16.1117.
Update: Police have now requested garages and mechanics to be vigilant about anyone who has needed car repairs in the Bath area in the past 36 hours. More information can be found here.

Monday 18th November, 2013 at 09:46Deepest condolences to the family. Killing a person – a teenager! – who chose to ride a ‘bicycle is bad enough — driving away to let him die in the road is inexcusable. Spread the word wide: let’s help the police find this killer and get him or her off the streets ASAP.
A person writing as ‘@HalfNakedNathan’ on twitter says he is a friend of the youth that was killed; he is asking people to tweet about this news story and use the hashtag #JakeGilmore
The ‘RoadJustice.org.uk’ campaign website is also covering this; as are major cycle campaign groups on their websites, twitter accounts and Facebook pages.
