Long awaited architect’s drawings and artists’ impressions for Bath Rugby’s new arena at the Rec have finally been unveiled.

A team of architects and consultants were appointed earlier this year on the project and have produced an exciting vision for the future.

Bath Rugby’s in-house architect, Simon Pugh-Jones said: “We believe the design expresses and celebrates the festival spirit of match days; brings new life and activity to the Recreation Ground and the riverside, and that draws from, and contributes to, the rich cultural and historic context of the City.”

In addition to completely redeveloping the West Stand and North Terrace, it is proposed that the East Stand will be covered and will continue to be a seasonal stand that is removed each year to allow The Rec to be used for other sport, leisure and cultural events. The South Stand will also be extended.

Chief Executive Nick Blofeld said: “To finally be able to reveal our vision for new facilities at the Rec to the people of Bath is a major milestone for us. We have been working towards these proposals for a long time, and our aim has always been not only to provide excellent facilities for our team and fans, but for other users of the Rec too.

“We also want to open up the riverside for residents and visitors alike, as it will be a great place to have a walk and have a different view of the Abbey and Parade Gardens.”

“At all times our architects have been guided by the importance of retaining the unique atmosphere and character of the Rec, while respecting and responding to its iconic, sensitive and unique location.”
