King Edward’s Pre-Prep and Nursery has become the first Pre-Prep in the country, and Bath, to gain a Gold Quality Mark from the Historical Association, after its history provision was deemed excellent by an independent assessor.

Praising the School’s ‘innovative and engaging’ history curriculum, and noting how motivated pupils at King Edward’s Pre-Prep are about learning history, the Historical Association concluded that the School offers children ‘a very good start to their study of history,’ where the curriculum is enriched with age-appropriate source-work, role-play, enquiry and visits.

In awarding the Gold Quality Mark, the Historical Association highlighted some of the Pre-Prep’s recent history-based activity, including a newly installed 16 metre history timeline in the playground, a lesson on Neil Armstrong involving the superb use of original news footage and a sustained role-play for Year 1 pupils about the Norman invasion of England, which included a Medieval banquet for the attending Year 1 ‘Lords and Ladies’.

To enrich learning at school, regular trips include visits to the SS Great Britain in Bristol, Cardiff Castle, Sevington Victorian School and the Roman Baths.

Earlier this year, Year 2 also took on the role of ‘History Detectives’ as they delved into the Victorian history of their school building and the local area, producing a display on local history for All Saints Church, Weston.

Commenting on the School’s Gold Quality Mark, Pre-Prep teacher and History subject leader, Mr Stuart Boydell said: “We are all delighted with the award. It is wonderful to receive such a glowing report from the Historical Association and recognition for the excellent historical work done by the children and teachers within King Edward’s Pre-Prep.”
