Officers from Avon and Somerset Police have been thanked for helping to rescue a dog which broke his back and collapsed a lung after falling onto the railway line in Bath.
Taz’s owner sent a thank you card to update officers about his recovery following the incident, in which he broke his back and collapsed a lung. Thankfully he’s now up and about again.
The dog fell about 10m from the canal path onto the train track near the Beckford Road rail bridge.
Sergeant Stuart Cumine and PCSOs Mike Symonds and Dave Holmes responded to his owner’s call for help.
While PCSO Holmes stayed with Taz’s owner and her other dog, Stuart and Mike alerted the railway authorities to make sure it would be safe for them to go onto the tracks to rescue the injured animal.
PCSO Symonds’ local knowledge enabled them to find a way onto the track and PS Cumine brought Taz to safety. The PCSOs then drove the owner and both dogs to an emergency vet.
Now the owner has written to the constabulary to say: “Thank you so much for rescuing Taz … then going above and beyond (literally the extra mile) to deliver us to the vet clinic afterwards. Taz … is up and about again following some major surgery (bionic dog)!
“Words can’t properly express how grateful I am for your help – your caring and professionalism are a true credit to the police force.”
