The world’s funniest footwear, brainchildren of their multi-talented ‘handler’, Kev F Sutherland, return to the Rondo with their latest show.
They’ve been going since 2005. Are they still up to it, or are they now much-darned worn-out wrecks, like any other 18-year-old hosiery would be?
Well, dear reader, yes, they are emphatically still up to it, this irascible, quarrelsome pair of visitors from the outer limits of the comedy stocking world are, if anything, in better form than ever.
The ad-libs come fast and furious, the arguments between the two are acerbic and hilarious, and the puns reach a stratospheric level of outrageousness.
The conceit of the show, which is to take the piss out of Eurovision, works hilariously well, with ludicrously made-up national stereotypes of the ‘entries’ of the ‘contestants’ and the gags come roughly one a second.
And we even get to vote on the winner, if we’re not by now completely helpless with laughter. Democracy in comedy. Who knew?
The sox are beyond doubt one of the greatest comedy ideas of our time. Here’s to another 18 years!
