This stunning production, direct from the West End is a fine example of new musical theatre.

Based on the lives of the notorious Bonny and Clyde. A couple in love and running amok in America, based on a true story, it is both compelling and insightful.

The characters are well drawn and the music soars thanks to the stunning vocals of this excellent company.

Alex James-Hatton (Clyde) provides the integrity needed to play the violent criminal. He holds the stage with a huge presence and voice to match.

His love interest is Katie Tonkinson (Bonnie) who is a great partner.

Their love and passion is evident whilst they appreciate their killing spree will come to an end; the acceptance to die together rather than be alone is both moving and totally believable.

The entire cast are excellent. There is not a weak link, most multi role in the faith based community where the church features as a central haven.

Catherine Tyldesley (Blanche) is compromised by her marriage to Sam Ferriday (Buck), Clyde’s brother.

Her faith is her strength as she battles to keep the marriage on track only to end up as an accomplice of Bonnie and Clyde due to her love of Buck.

It is an intriguing storyline which the book deals with in a sensitive way. Without question they were outlaws seeking fame and fortune whilst only ever a few steps away from their own deaths.

However, the storyline reflects their reasons, lost dreams and love with a compassion and depth that defies its subject matter.

The orchestra under the baton of Issie Osborne is feisty and exuberant with an excellent score to enjoy.

What makes the piece evermore captivating is the design by Philip Witcomb; stunning projections take us on their journey from woodlands to jail and beyond this is helped by the atmospheric lighting design from Zoe Spurr.

There is so much to enjoy in this production. It is a memorable show and an absolute treat to have a musical and cast of this calibre in Bath.
