Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Youth Connect service will be showcasing its innovative spoken word poetry project, Re:verse, at a national conference this weekend.
At the National Youth Work Summit in Kent on 20th June, two young people from Bath, Bethany, 19, and Lana, 18, will perform poetry they have written themselves to an audience of around 800 youth workers.
Jo Dolby, Youth Connect worker at the Riverside Youth Hub in Bath, will also talk about the project, and how it is benefiting young people in Bath and North East Somerset.
Cllr Michael Evans (Conservative, Midsomer Norton North), the Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for young people from our area to showcase their talent to a wide audience.
“It’s also very good to see the work of our Youth Connect team being recognised on the national stage in this way.”
Re:verse meets once a week at the Riverside Youth Hub, when young people read and listen to poetry, make films, create group poems and learn about new words and performance techniques.
It is supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Youth Connect workers and Bath Spa University students who are studying performance poetry and creative writing.
Sessions are open to any young person between 11 and 18 who lives in Bath and North East Somerset, and run on Thursdays, 5.30 – 7pm, at the Riverside Youth Hub, York Place, London Road, Bath.
