The team behind the bid to turn Bath City FC into a community-owned club are asking NOW Bath’s readers to help identify a supporter from some 1960s archive footage.
Dubbed ‘Mascot Man’, the flamboyant supporter could often be seen cheering on the faithful at big Bath City games, dressed in black and white top hat and tails whilst twirling a large black and white umbrella and ringing a handbell.
The old film footage shows Mascot Man in his trademark black and white outfit, rallying the Bath crowd during a crucial second round FA Cup tie against Bournemouth in 1965.
Chairman of the Big Bath City Bid, Jon Bickley, commented “Flamboyant supporters like Mascot Man are part of the rich history of Bath City Football Club.
“There will be NOW Bath readers who remember seeing him at games, and some may even be able to shed light on his identity.
“It would be great to put a name to this iconic character, and find out if he has any relatives in the Bath area.”
Martin Powell, Chairman of Bath City Supporters Society, added “Last year the team behind the restoration of Cleveland Pools in Bath wanted to identify a person from an iconic old photo, and put a call out through the local media for information.
“As a result he was identified, and generations of his family were contacted.
“It would be great if NOW Bath’s readers could help us identify our own iconic Mascot Man from this 1960s film footage.”
The archive footage of Mascot Man features in the promotional video made for the launch of the Big Bath City Bid.
