The YHA has teamed up with MTV Award nominated, double platinum-selling Swiss band 77 Bombay Street to host a series of free intimate gigs at Youth Hostels across England and Wales in February 2016, including Bath.
The ambitious band, comprising of four Swiss-born brothers, have set their sights on breaking the UK’s music scene by using YHA as a platform to engage a new fan base.
In Switzerland, the band has topped the charts with both their 2011 and 2012 albums – Up in the Sky and Oko Town respectively, which went platinum.
77 Bombay Street will join a number of young, signed and unsigned musicians including George Ezra, Amber Run and Prides that have used YHA’s network of venues to showcase their music to new audiences.
In 2013, the British singer song writer of the top five hit Budapest, George Ezra was part of the week-long YHA Road Trip tour which put an unsigned band The Intermission Project on the road in a customised VW camper van touring Youth Hostels and playing free gigs.
The Swiss 4-some, brothers Matt, Joe, Simri-Ramon and Esra Buchli, will begin their tour at YHA London St Pancras, working their way up and down the country at YHA locations before finishing up back in London at YHA London St Pauls.
The band will be in Bath on Wednesday 24th February.
Their new album, which combines folk, pop and rock with funk, classical and acoustic sounds, was written in London.
Delighted to be returning to the UK and touring YHAs in 2016 Matt said: “We are really excited to be working with YHA England and Wales and coming to the UK to showcase our music.
“There is something really special about Youth Hostels, people from around the world coming together exchanging travel tips with a mutual respect and the sense of belonging in a global community.
“Big parts of our song writing was inspired and took place in London and we are really excited to be back touring with our third album.”
Hannah Marsland, Network Marketing Manager at YHA (England and Wales) said: “YHA is delighted to be involved with the band’s UK launch. As well as hosting the gigs for artists to showcase their talents, it is also an opportunity for YHA (England and Wales) to reach out to young people and highlight the incredible wealth of affordable adventure and accommodation on their doorstep.
YHA’s association with 77 Bombay Street and other young artists is an exciting development in the youth hostelling charity’s 80-year history.
YHA is all about creating unique opportunities for young people and music is a great way to raise awareness of its network of incredible properties throughout England and Wales, providing affordable accommodation in the most exceptional and diverse locations.
