There’s just two weeks left to support “Souper November”, a month long fund raising campaign for the Genesis Trust, the charity that supports the vulnerable and homeless of Bath.

The concept is to get people across the city making soup and sharing it with friends in November to raise money for the charity.

Genesis Trust is urging families, church and community groups, schools and businesses to take part.

Stephen Chesworth, Community Fundraiser for the Genesis Trust said: “We have had a great response from everyone in Bath and the word is getting out about Souper November.

“Already we have raised £1,000. Now we just need more people to convert their interest into actually making soup for their friends who then make a donation to the Genesis Trust.”

2014 MasterChef winner Ping Coombes recently joined Genesis volunteers at Widcombe Baptist Church to make her own special ABC Chicken Soup for the evening soup run, using ingredients entirely donated by local businesses (Larkhall Butchers, Hartley Farm Shop and the Thoughtful Bread company).

Serving out the soup as darkness fell in the city centre car park, Ping was able to see at first hand how the service operates.

She said: “It ‘s humbling to see so many people in Bath have so little and that the soup run is their source of both food and some company.

“They were really appreciative of what was on offer and I’m pleased to see that it runs 365 days a year so that the vulnerable people in Bath are being fed.”

Ping is urging local people to get on board with the campaign. She continued: “I am supporting Genesis Trust Souper November and I hope the people in Bath will too.

“Soup is wholesome, full of goodness and warms the soul. Please join me to support this campaign by holding a soup event with your family, friends and colleagues – the money you raise will be used to support the homeless and the vulnerable in Bath”.

When you hold a Souper November event making soup for your friends you can then ask them to donate online via the website www.genesistrust.org.uk/souper-november or you can send a cheque made payable to ‘Genesis Trust’.

Send that cheque to Genesis Trust SOUPER NOVEMBER, The Old School House, South Parade, Bath BA2 4AF.

If you need posters and invitations to publicise your event also go to Souper November on the website and you can download.

If you are out about in and around Bath, many cafes, restaurants, pubs and farm shop cafes are selling soup for Souper November and giving a percentage of the price of each bowl of soup to the Genesis Trust.

Look on the Genesis Trust website for list of participating catering establishments, as well as great soup recipes from award winning Bath chefs.
