The skipper was speaking at the Blue, Black & White’s press conference following their remarkable comeback win over Northampton Saints at The Rec in the Investec Champions Cup quarter-finals on Friday 10th April.
The Somerset team overcame falling behind by both 28-7 and 35-14 to record a heart-stopping 43-41 win.
And scrum-half Spencer said: “There’s been a few times, probably, in the last few years when we’ve conceded early. It’s something that we’ve tried to address.
“It happened again tonight but I just think the belief and the trust, firstly in the plan and secondly in each other with this group…
“We knew we were up against it. But the way we came back…
“We spoke about doing it together at half-time – and I just have ultimate trust in the blokes beside me.
“I think the leadership group, in terms of Ewelsy [Charlie Ewels], Finn [Russell] and Miles [Reid], did an unbelievable job tonight in terms of making the right decisions at the right time.
“There was a big moment where, potentially, in the second half we could’ve gone for the corner to make it tight, but we took the three.
“And again, I trust in the plan and trust in the process that we could get another score – and we managed to get down the other end and take our chance.
“It’s just about having trust in one another to execute the plan.”
On whether Bath’s belief comes from past experiences or from training sessions, Spencer said: “I think it’s a bit of both, to be fair.
“It’s obviously spending every day with each other and having that trust but also it’s having been in those positions before, and understanding…
“We played Harlequins, two years ago maybe, and we were 39 points down and we didn’t win the game but we came within three points of winning the game.
“So it’s little experiences like that that have driven this group forward.
“Obviously it would be nice not to be 20 points down, whatever we were, but just ultimate belief in the group.”
