Britain’s top pentathletes have been given some extra ‘drive’ in their quest for home medals and Olympic qualification at the European Championships later this summer.
Mercedes-Benz of Bath, part of the prestigious Sytner Group, has signed up as the official vehicle supplier for the competition, which is to be held at the University of Bath’s Claverton Down campus between 18th and 23rd August.
“As a sponsor of major sporting events, it is tremendous for us to be associated with such a prestige brand as Mercedes-Benz,” said Nigel Laughton, Pentathlon GB’s Chief Executive Officer.
“This link will undoubtedly help to cement the European Championships as a key part of UK Sport’s National Lottery funded #EveryRoadtoRio events series, which involves more than 30 events between now and Rio, and during a great summer of sport.
“It is fantastic to see our athletes’ impressive performances receive the recognition they deserve, as well as all the work being done behind the scenes, led by Event Director Kara Luck, in bringing an international Modern Pentathlon event to Bath for the first time.”
The partnership will involve Mercedes-Benz of Bath supplying a variety of vehicles to transport competition organisers and dignitaries around the city throughout the championships.
Tim Sett, Head of Business for the Retailer, was delighted with the tie-up.
“It’s a tremendous honour for Mercedes-Benz of Bath to be part of an exciting event that will bring world-class athletes to the city for such a high-profile competition,” he added.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be involved in something that clearly benefits Bath, will be enjoyed by the local community and strengthens the reputation of the University of Bath as a centre of sporting excellence.”
GB’s pentathletes are currently preparing for two of the biggest competitions in the calendar: the World Championships, held in Berlin from 28th June, and the much anticipated European Championships.
Competing in Bath in front of a home crowd will be the pinnacle of the athletes’ season.
