A fundraising appeal has been launched to improve access to a special garden at Haycombe Cemetery in Bath.

Bath Sands, which is part of the national stillbirth and neonatal death charity, opened a Garden of Reflection in 2019.

Set in a peaceful corner of the cemetery, it is a space for individual reflection, with benches set among trees and beds with seasonal planting.

It is also a gathering place where many bereaved families can come together.

Volunteer gardening days provide an additional way for bereaved parents to connect, contribute, and support their own mental health.

The centrepiece is a sculpture of a bereaved couple holding their baby, which is surrounded by a circle of brick pavers engraved with the names of babies lost recently and long ago.

Bath Sands is fundraising to replace the current gravel path to the garden with a resin-bound one.

The new path will improve access for wheelchair users and families with buggies, as well as remove ongoing maintenance costs and challenges.

The upgrade will complete the original vision for the garden and the fundraising target is £8,000.

The Bath support group holds meetings St Stephen’s Church at Lansdown on the first Tuesday of the month from 7pm to 9pm.
