Former Bath, England and British and Irish Lions hooker Lee Mears has joined Bath Rugby Foundation as a new Trustee, as the charity celebrates their ten year anniversary.
In his new role, Lee – who is also co-owner of successful coffee chain Jika Jika – will be responsible for Business Relationship Development and will also act as one of the charity’s ambassadors.
His appointment will be an integral part of the Foundation’s future with Lee, alongside the other appointed Trustees, having an input into the strategic direction of the Foundation moving forward as well as the current operation.
Lee Mears said: “I have been involved with Bath Rugby Foundation from the beginning, firstly as a player and now as a Trustee. I have seen first-hand the amazing work they do with children and young people and I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to help on the ground over the years, coaching kids. It was for that reason I wanted to get involved.
“In my new position as a Trustee and Ambassador, I hope to use some of my contacts in Bath and in rugby as a whole to help the Foundation grow. It would be great to see them become increasingly well-known and recognised for the work they do, both as part of the Club and in their own right.
“Ultimately, I would love them to grow to be as successful as the Club itself is aiming to be.
“In addition, I have a keen interest in business and I’m really looking forward to learning some new things as a Trustee, while at the same time giving back to a charity I have been following for a long time. And, if all else fails, I make a great cup of tea!”
Lee joins fellow Bath Rugby Foundation trustees Peter Wragg (Chairman), Tim Westbrook, Colin Marshall, Nick Blofeld, Chris Potter and Stuart Doughty.
Bath Rugby Foundation aims to enhance the lives of children and young people in the local area through sport.
Through their award-winning Education and Inclusion programmes, the Foundation strive to motivate, raise self esteem, increase confidence and improve the life skills of all the young people they work with, by imparting the values found in rugby – camaraderie, loyalty, discipline and respect.
