Bath 1st XI opened their competitive programme with a 73-run trouncing of visitors South Wilts 1st XI on Sunday 26th April.
The Somerset side piled up 264-7 in the ECB National Club Championship Group 9 – Preliminary Round 2 – clash at North Parade and dismissed the Wiltshire team for 191.
Having chosen to bat, Bath had two half-centurions.
Number four Sam Young made 62 – off 51 balls and featuring two sixes and seven fours – and number seven Louis Brown top-scored with 67, which came off 44 deliveries and included four sixes and five fours.
Opener Jack Scrivens weighed in with 38 from 42 balls
South Wilts’ Archie Pascoe and Matthew Falconer bagged two wickets apiece.
The guests slumped to 55-3 in response and were skittled in 36.3 overs, Brown completing a superb afternoon’s work by snaring 4-47 off eight overs and Ollie Heard pocketing 3-29 in 6.3 overs.
Skipper Ben Draper (46) and Falconer (44 not out) were by far the best of the South Wilts batters.
Round 1 of the competition will take place on Sunday 10th May.
Young hit 60 not out as Bath were removed for 90 in their home defeat by Corsham 1st XI on Saturday 25th April in their final pre-season friendly.
The Lansdown President’s XI won by three wickets against the Chairman’s XI in a friendly at Combe Park on 25th April.
Captain and opener Sam Pearce was the top-scoring batter for the Chairman’s XI, who were shot out for 211 in 44 overs after electing to take first knock.
Sharing an opening stand of 64 with wicket-keeper Marc Lezar, Pearce made 24 – but he was easily outdone by extras. The President’s XI gifted 38 runs, including 27 wides.
Most successful bowler for the President’s XI was Praneel Choughule, who returned 3-27 from six overs.
The President’s XI were reduced to 37-2 in reply. But a second-wicket partnership worth 102 between Daniel Lezar and skipper Jordan Smith, who both retired out on reaching their half-centuries, put them in the driving seat.
Victory was achieved at 215-7 in 37.3 overs, extras providing 36.
Ashton Williams bagged 2-14 from four overs for the Chairman’s XI.
Bath Wanderers’ bid for a fourth successive West of England Premier League Women’s Premier Division championship got off to a terrible start on 26th April.
Hosts Devizes dished out a nine-wicket defeat, having dismissed the Wanderers for 82 in 18.1 overs after opting to field.
Opener Ava Pike (16) led the way for Bath, who had been 41-3. The second-largest contribution came from extras (14).
A lot of the damage was done by Katherine Mills, who pocketed 5-17 off 5.1 overs.
The guests’ only success with the ball came when Lily Beckley trapped Rowan Sabin leg before for 6 to leave Devizes 31-1.
But second-wicket pair Mills (32 not out) and Jess Selby (20 not out) produced an unbroken stand worth 52 to steer the Wiltshire outfit to 83-1 from 18.2 overs.
