On a rain-ruined final day of the league season, they took 10 points from their abandoned match at home to Shirehampton 1st XI and finished in penultimate place in the table, with only Winterbourne 2nd XI beneath them

Northwest Bristol club Shirehampton were put in at Bloomfield Rise on Saturday 30th August and made 183-8 off 40 overs.

Opener Freddie Wright was caught by Oliver Rose off Sam Marquiss for 34 from 32 balls to leave the guests 38-1.

Stephen Williams played carefully in making 10 from 70 deliveries and featured in a 48-run stand for the second wicket with Nathan Brown.

When Brown was fourth out – leg before to Tom Marquiss for a 69-ball 59 that included two sixes and 10 fours – Shirehampton had 130 on the board.

They progressed to 161-4. But with Freddy Hiscott dismissing Adam Geddes (20), Brad Spooner and Callum Carter on his way to 3-57 from eight overs, they lost four wickets for 22 runs.

Tom Marquiss finished with 2-28 from eight overs.

A wicket apiece from Carter and Charlie Shortman reduced Hampset to 13-2 in reply, Conor McDonald (9) and Ollie Smith (1) the men sent back.

Skipper Sam Marquiss dominated an unbroken third-wicket partnership with Hiscott (2 not out) that yielded 34 runs before the game was abandoned, Hampset 47-2 from seven overs.

The captain hit a six and half-a-dozen fours in making 33 not out from only 12 balls.

Hampset won five and lost 10 of their 18 league games this year, clocking up 181 points.

Bristol 3rd XI won the league championship and Shirehampton claimed the runners-up spot.
