Avon and Somerset Police in Bath have launched an appeal for help from the public to trace a man who assaulted a teenage waitress in the street.

The 19-year-old was walking along Russell Street and onto Rivers Street at around 2.30pm on Wednesday 9th July.

She asked a man in front of her the way to the Co-op in Julian Road, and he said he was going in that direction and would walk with her.

At the junction of Rivers Street and Julian Road he grabbed the young woman’s dress and held her tightly to him.

She shouted at him to get off and managed to break free and run back down Russell Street towards the tearooms where she worked.

She was shocked but otherwise unhurt.

The suspect is described as white, 27 to 34 years old, 6ft 2ins tall and of average to medium build.

He had mousey brown hair that was short at the sides but longer and swept back on top with a side parting, and stubble on his face.

He was wearing a dirty cream-coloured T- shirt with a round neck and short sleeves, and slightly flared blue jeans covered in white dust.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who saw the man walking with a slim, blonde woman in a black dress and apron, is asked to call Bath CID on 101 quoting crime reference number 69708/14.
