Aspiring young writers are being encouraged to get their imaginations working and enter a competition launched by Bath & North East Somerset Council.
The Young Crime Writers’ Competition is open to anyone who was aged 17 or under on Monday January 12th, 2015.
The story must be a crime or thriller, and there is a maximum length of 1,000 words.
The closing date is Monday March 16th/
For inspiration and tips, a writing workshop with local crime writers will run on Saturday January 31st, at Bath Central Library.
It takes place from 11am – 1pm and it’s free, but places are limited so contact [email protected] to book.
This year’s judges are writers C.J. Carver, Jeff Dowson, Sandy Osborne, David Lassman and Nigel Smith.
Cllr David Dixon, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “This competition has been running very successfully for six years and it’s a great opportunity for budding writers to be recognised and have their work read.”
Winners will be presented at an award ceremony at Bath Central Library on Wednesday April 29th.
First prize is a Kindle, funded by Bath Spa University, and a trophy, funded by the Bath Chronicle.
Second and third prizes of book tokens and books are being provided by Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights.
There will also be a further five Highly Commended entries, all of which will receive a certificate. Winning entries will be published on Bath & North East Somerset Council’s website.
The competition is open to anyone living in Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire or Bristol.
