The leader of B&NES Council Cllr Paul Crossley and Cllr David Bellotti have been given a special tour of Saltford Brass Mill by local volunteers following recent renovation work.
The tour was to show them the completion of the £50K renovation project carried out by B&NES Council.
Saltford Brass Mill in The Shallows, Saltford, is a listed building and a scheduled ancient monument and is held on a long lease by B&NES Council.
Council Leader, Cllr Paul Crossley, had previously visited in 2012. This led to important surveys being undertaken on the structure and the electrical system.
The £50K renovation project that followed included additional structural support and a comprehensive re-wiring of all the electrics to ensure safety in a building that is so close to the river.
Cllr Bellotti thanked the volunteers who put up interpretation displays, open the building for visitors, do routine husbandry, and provide educational talks on the history of the Brass Mill.
Local Parish Councillor, Duncan Hounsell, who had campaigned for the renovation added his thanks to all involved.
He said: “£50K is the biggest investment in the Brass Mill for almost 20 years.
“This means that the Brass Mill can open again to visitors and it is explaining the history of the Mill to visitors which motivates the volunteer team.”
