The Minister of State for Schools, David Laws MP, visited Bath yesterday and met with Steve Bradley, the Lib Dem Candidate to succeed Don Foster as MP for Bath, to discuss local schools.
Mr Laws said: “The high standard of Bath’s schools should be praised, and the Lib Dem-run Council should be commended for all the work its doing on the efficient roll-out and delivery of free school meals at Primary Schools across Bath.
“This success was made possible by Lib Dems in Government and in Bath working together.”
Steve Bradley said: “I believe the first few years of people’s lives are crucial in helping them to get on later in life – that is why Lib Dems are working to give all children the very best start.”
“Lib Dem policy has made a real difference for parents of these children and will mean that parents of infants in Bath will save around £400 a year per child.
“I am campaigning to extend this offer of free school meals to all junior schoolchildren too. My petition is online at stevebradley.info/schoollunch.”
The free school meals scheme has been received well by parents and teachers alike.
Cllr Dine Romero, Cabinet Member for Education said: “We’re really pleased to see children receiving a hot healthy meal at lunch.
“Trials of the scheme showed real educational outcomes, and we’re looking forward to seeing the results for our children.”
