Bath’s MP, Don Foster, visited Bath Spa University on Tuesday to see the latest £70m development at the University’s Newton Park campus.
Mr Foster MP met with the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christina Slade, to discuss the University’s vision and strategy. As part of this discussion, Mr Foster was given a tour of the new development.
The new development at the University has two elements and includes a new academic building, ‘Commons,’ which is located in the centre of the campus that provides new teaching and learning spaces. The second element is a new residential accommodation at the top of the campus to provide an additional 561 student bedrooms.
The work on the development began in summer 2012 and Commons has now opened. The student residential accommodation is set to be open in time for the new academic year in September.
Commenting, Don Foster MP, said: “These facilities are very impressive and really highlight the impressive educational facilities we are lucky to have in Bath. Commons plays host to a variety of different facilities such as a digital studio to lecture and seminar rooms.
“With record numbers applying for university, the new residential accommodation will help Bath Spa University in coping with these applicants. This will give more people the opportunity to make the very most of these excellent facilities.”
Commenting further, Professor Christina Slade, Vice-Chancellor said: “I was delighted to welcome Mr Foster to Bath Spa University and talk to him about our plans for the future as well as show him our outstanding new facilities for students.
“The student experience is at the heart of everything we do here at Bath Spa and the significant investment at our Newton Park campus reflects that.”
