Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information to identify two men involved in an hour-long attempt to smash a shop window in the centre of Bath.

CCTV images show the pair coming and returning about five times in what officers describe as a sustained and premeditated attack on La Baguette sandwich shop in Stall Street, overnight on Sunday/Monday 19th-20th October.

They kicked the window, made running kicks at it, and hit it with a sign, a chair, a traffic cone and a large, heavy block of Bath stone.

PC Robin McIvor said: “The window was damaged beyond repair but not completely smashed. It is clear this was a premeditated attack.

“They did not attack any other premises. Their motive though is  unclear.”

The two men involved appear to be in their late teens to early 20s.

The first photograph shows one on his own.

The second shows the two men together – the first now with a coat over his top.

The third photo shows the second man on his own.

The fourth picture shows the block of Bath stone they used to attack the window.

It is 12”x14”, with weathering on all sides except the bottom and five drilled holes on the top, suggesting it was mounted on a stone wall or gate.

Police would like to know where it came from.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 022845.
