Due to extensive vandalism overnight, the Avon Street multi-storey car park in Bath has had to be closed by the Council today (Friday 5th December) with immediate effect.
A substantial amount of internal lighting has been vandalised and live electrical wires have been exposed, leaving the multi-storey section of the car park unsafe for public use.
Electrical engineers are currently on site assessing the scale of the vandalism and the repairs required.
The Council aim to have the damaged Avon Street multi-storey repaired and safe to open up again for public use as soon as possible.
Anyone planning to use the Avon Street multi-storey is advised to use alternative car parking – such as the Council’s Park & Ride services – or consider using public transport to visit the Bath Christmas Market.
The range of parking options available can be found at www.bathnes.gov.uk/parking.
Please note that the Avon Street surface level (open air) car park remains in use – it is just the multi-storey section that is affected by the vandalism.
The Council’s roadside VMS traffic signs have been reprogrammed to inform people of the emergency closure and a public notice has been published on the Council’s website www.bathnes.gov.uk.
Visitors to Bath Christmas Market are reminded that First Great Western will be running 28 additional trains to and from Bath Spa this weekend.
