Sewer works being carried out by Wessex Water will see motorists being diverted in the city centre from today, Tuesday 31st August, for the next twelve weeks.

A sewer currently runs under Avon Street car park but needs to be diverted into the road within Ambury and Corn Street, to allow work to begin on the Bath Quays North development.

During the works, which are expected to last 12 weeks in total, sections of the highway will be partially closed.

The first phase of works requires the closure of the left lane of Ambury for an estimated seven weeks, but traffic will still be able to use the right lane and be able to turn left into Corn Street.

Once this section is complete, the next phase will be to close the left turn into Corn Street requiring a diversion to be in place along James St West. This phase is expected to take five weeks.

Access to Avon Street car park during this phase will be via Green Park Road.

Motorists are also being advised that the car park will be closed overnight for three nights in early October. The exact dates will be announced nearer the time.

Bus stops will remain operational throughout but will be moved along Ambury as the works progress.

Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for Transport, said: “These works are being carried out in phases to reduce disruption for motorists and we are hopeful that this will segue with the end of the closure of Cleveland Bridge, to minimise city-wide disruption.

“We are also working with the bus companies to ensure services are provided throughout. Thank you for your patience as we work towards the completion of Bath Quays North.”
