Bath MP Ben Howlett organised a trip to Westminster last week for the Golden-Oldies charity, which is ten years old this year and encourages vulnerable and older people to enjoy singing together to bring happiness and social engagement.
The catchy, new sing-along Goldies ‘anthem’ was sung in the Jubilee Room at the House of Commons by 40 regular participants from Goldies groups in Bath, Swindon, Uttoexeter, Swindon and Stoke Gifford.
They were joined by Ben, and some of the other MPs representing the singers; Robert Buckland, MP for South Swindon, Justin Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon and Andrew Griffiths, MP for Burton.
The new ‘anthem’ was composed by Bristol social care worker, Paul Bryant, who back in the 90s was part of a duo with a top 40 hit.
Ben Howlett said: “It has been such a great day to see all the Goldies enjoying themselves and I thoroughly enjoyed singing along with them.
“The Golden-Oldies Charity provides such a valuable service and everyone there spoke so highly of the time they spent together singing.
“Bringing Grenville and the Bath group along today has been great, and for them to sing with and meet groups from across the UK in Westminster has been a truly unique experience which I hope they will remember for a long time to come.
“I only wish my own grandparents had had such a great opportunity in their later years.”
