Manvers Street in the centre of Bath will be closed for five nights in March for ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and other works, heralding the start of 18 months of roadworks.

Bath & North East Somerset Council has published a traffic order which will close Manvers Street from its junction with Henry Street to the junction with Dorchester Street from 9th to 13th March between 8pm and 5am.

The one-way restriction at Kingston Road and Railway Street will be suspended to allow vehicles to exit the area via Henry Street and Pierrepont Street whilst Manvers Street is closed.

The council will be carrying out GPR and below-ground service and drainage surveys.

It says highway remedial works are anticipated to take place between spring and winter, with the final dates to be confirmed.

The notice adds: “Works are anticipated to be for 18 months.”

During the five overnight closures, the alternative route clockwise given is via Pierrepont Street, North Parade, North Parade Road, Pulteney Road, Rossiter Road, Claverton Street, Lower Bristol Road, Churchill Bridge, Broad Quay, Ambury, Corn Street, St James’s Parade, Southgate Street and Dorchester Street.

Anti-clockwise, the diversion will be via Dorchester Street, Broad Quay, Churchill Bridge, Lower Bristol Road, Rossiter Road, Pulteney Road, North Parade Road, North Parade and Pierrepont Street.
