Patients at the Royal United Hospital in Bath have had to be transferred to other parts of the building after the ceiling collapsed in on a ward during the night.
It is believed tiles dropped from the ceiling of the cardiology ward in Zone B, the Atrium building, at around 2am.
The RUH tweeted this morning saying ‘Roof collapse reports not correct. Some ceiling tiles have come down in heavy rain, patients moved to other areas. No injuries.’
A member of staff at the hospital contacted NOW Bath and told us that water had come down through the 3rd floor cardiology outpatients department, before going into the lifts.
Medical equipment was being checked to make sure it hadn’t sustained damage from the water.
27 patients were transferred to other wards following the water from the intense storm in Bath coming through the roof of the building.
A number of the patients were moved to the Medical Short Stay (MSS) Unit, which has a capacity of 18 beds.
The move saw the number of patients on the ward increase to 24, with designated single spaces being shared by two beds.
The hole in the roof has been temporarily fixed while contractors investigate the cause.
As tweeted by the RUH, nobody was injured in the incident.
