With a chill in the air and darker evenings, the season has changed and new autumnal ales are available to reward those who get to the pubs, thanks to Bath Ales and Beerd.

South West brewer Bath Ales has unveiled five special edition beers perfect for the season – each is on a limited run and will only be available whilst stocks last.

Conversion – 3.6% Bitter:

Bath Ales has crafted a commemorative beer for rugby fans to enjoy during the Rugby World Cup. Available at all Bath Ales venues and Enterprise owned pubs nationwide, the beer was brewed especially for the tournament.

Offering the ideal beer to toast the winning try, it features subtle hints of citrus and berry flavours from British hops balanced with a refreshing grapefruit bitterness.

MegaGem – 7.4% Double drop fermented ale:

To celebrate 20 years since the South West business launched and brewed its first batch of flagship ale Gem, Bath Ales has crafted a limited edition anniversary ale.

The expertly brewed tipple is a stronger version of the multiple award-winning amber ale, Gem, and will be available in all Bath Ales pubs whilst stocks last.

MegaGem was double drop fermented during the brewing process, which increases the character and depth of flavour as well as the alcohol levels to 7.4% ABV.

Somewhere between a dark bitter and a barley wine, MegaGem boasts intense malty flavours that are more complex than your normal bitter, with a slight bitterness and fruity aromas.

SILO – 4.7% Saison:

Bath Ales’ owned Beerd Brewery has teamed up with upcoming brewery, Crane Beer, to collaborate on a refreshingly tart saison, SILO.

Rich in autumnal inspired flavours, SILO features hints of red peppercorn,  cloves and a marmalade finish from added orange peel. It can be found at the BEERD craft beer and pizza bar and at other select local venues for a limited period.

Path of the Giant’s Axe – 5.5% IPA:

Brewed in collaboration with Insight Brewing Co. of Minneapolis, USA, Beerd has produced a balanced IPA with a tropical aroma and fruit flavours of citrus and grapefruit with a slight bitterness and a pine overtone.

This beer’s name is influenced by a local Bristol legend about two giants, one of which created the Avon Gorge.

Forest Hare – 3.9%:

Brewed with the best imported hops from New Zealand, Forest Hare is a distinctive, autumnal ale. Copper red in colour, the beer is introduced into Bath Ales venues every autumn for the duration of the season.

This year, for the first time, the autumn favourite will also be available in Everards pubs nationwide.

It marries well with game and meat pies, casseroles and strong or mature cheese and is also being used in a special pie, Tennerfeast pie, in collaboration with the Great Bath Feast throughout October in three Bath Ales venues in Bath.

Gem – 4.1% Amber ale:

Here to stay, Bath Ales’ flagship ale has been enjoyed by discerning drinkers for 20 years.  The award-winning brew is a quintessentially English beer, made using floor-malted barley and hops.

It has a rich aroma of hops and malt, and a long, deep, bittersweet finish. It is available in bottles and on draught all year round.
