This year Bike Week’s theme was ‘cycle to work’ and Bath’s Cyclescheme, the UK’s largest cycle to work provider, celebrated with a week-long calendar of exciting events for its 45 employees.
Monday’s event was a fresh fruit and continental breakfast hosted by Cyclescheme’s Retail & Events team.
The breakfast was a small reward to celebrate the efforts of colleagues who rode their bikes for part or all of their commute to work, with a healthy bike breakfast being a great way to kick off Bike Week.
The employer, based in Bath, supports employees who cycle to work with shower facilities, bike lockers, and flexible working enabling employees to go for a longer ride at lunchtime.
All employees have access to five Brompton folding bicycles that the company provides for lunchtime errands, ad hoc cycle to work rides, or getting to and from the local train station for business trips.
Employees had the option to finish their working day half an hour earlier on the Wednesday of Bike Week to enjoy cycling with colleagues.
Staff rode out from the office, taking in the local Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as they cycled to the nearby village of Claverton and then enjoyed kayaking on the River Avon.
Partner Cycle Republic’s visit on Thursday saw bike servicing being offered to employees, along with Cyclescheme’s tradition of holding a barbecue in the office backyard to mark special occasions.
The week of events will conclude today, Friday, with a lunch break extended by an extra half-hour for employees who wish to participate in outdoors games of a ‘Bike Olympics’ near Bath’s historic Royal Crescent.
Two teams of employees will compete under the names of Pink and Blue, Cyclescheme’s brand colours.
“We’ve enjoyed celebrating Bike Week at Cyclescheme for five years and it’s been a pleasure organising this year’s activities,” said Lucy Anderson-Roberts, Event Co-ordinator at Cyclescheme.
“It’s a great chance in the summer to get colleagues together and enjoy plenty of cycling, as well as food and the chance to try something new like a bike ride and kayaking after.”
