The campaign to raise funds for Peasedown cancer sufferer Becci McCafferty has received big backing– from one of the UK’s leading high street banks.

Local resident and parish councillor Andy Larcombe in his day-job is a district-area manager for the bank in the south west.

Thanks to his support, Barclays have agreed to match-fund – up to the sum of £1,000 – his personal sponsorship for the 20 mile walk from Peasedown St John to Cheddar on Saturday 3rd May.

All monies raised will go directly into the Fund for Peasedown, which has been set up to support Becci and her family.

Andy said: “Supporting the McCaffertys is a very worthy cause, and Barclays are pleased to be involved. Every year, through volunteer schemes and programmes, we give away millions of pounds to charity and good causes – all with the aim of making the lives of those who need help much better.”

As well as their personal commitments, all Barclays employees are given time during working hours to support their volunteering activities.

In 2012, 68,000 employees worldwide volunteered 459,000 hours of their work and personal time, and thanks to match-funding incentives more than £25 million was raised.

The news of Barclay’s support comes in the same week as an anonymous single donation of a massive £1,000 was given to Becci and the Fund for Peasedown.

Fund coordinator is fellow local councillor Karen Walker, who is thrilled with how well the fundraising is going.

She said: “The support for Becci has been coming in from across the country. The total amount of donations received, both actual and as pledges, now total almost £3,000.

“All monies raised will go towards paying for a dream holiday to Florida, and also other support Becci may need during her treatment.”

Other fundraising efforts for Becci continue to soar. On Mothering Sunday, 30th March, publicans Graham and Clarissa at the Prince of Wales Inn, Dunkerton Hill, have dedicated their weekly quiz and raffle to the McCaffertys. The event will start at 8pm.

All funds raised will go pay for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Disneyland Florida for Becci and her family, and also contribute towards other things the family may need whilst she is ill.
