Bath City FC is to hold a Community Day on Saturday 22nd March, where all fans will be able to give ‘what you want’ on the gate to the game on the day – Bath City v Chelmsford City.
The Club are hoping that supporters will be generous, as 10% of the money taken on the door is being donated to The Forever Friends Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care Campaign.
It normally costs an adult spectator £12 to watch a game and it is hoped that fans will help raise money, not only for the football club but also the Forever Friends Appeal.
The Forever Friends Appeal are raising £8.5 million towards an exceptional new Cancer Centre at the RUH.
The RUH is planning to build a £23.5 million new Centre (33% charitable funds) to dramatically transform cancer care for patients and their families.
Following the exclusive design of The Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care, the RUH want to take the same holistic approach, to create a relaxing and therapeutic environment, which will help reduce stress and anxiety and ensure the patients feel safe, supported and special during their treatment.
Bath City FC’s Commercial Manager, Bob Chester is very driven to help promote the Appeal’s ‘Be a Brick’ scheme. The ‘Be a Brick’ scheme has given individuals, companies and groups the opportunity to ‘Be a Brick!’ and ‘Buy a Brick, a Row or a Wall’ to help raise funds towards the building.
In return for purchasing a virtual brick at the cost of £10 each, donors receive a ‘Be a Brick’ certificate and acknowledgement letter. To choose to purchase a virtual ‘Row’ for £100 or ‘Wall’ for £1000, they receive a certificate together with an acknowledgement of their chosen name within the design of the new Cancer Centre.
In just over one year, the Appeal have raised over £120,000 from the ‘BAB’ scheme. Despite its success, with a target of £8.5 million, the scheme continues in earnest.
Bob Chester said: “The Build A Brick scheme, I feel, is a simple but effective way to make people aware of the Forever Friends Appeal and hopefully donate small amounts of money as every penny / pound helps – it never hurts to give a little, as one day we may need a lot!”
Bath City FC Directors & staff like Bob Chester, have been very enthusiastic about the new project and want to continue to support the Appeal throughout the life of this Campaign.
Bob continued: “As a club we chose the charity because cancer is close to all of us. It is something we all have to consider because at some time in our lives, it could be our own family, friends or work colleagues who are diagnosed with the disease.
“If this is the case, we would want them to have the best possible experience in a world class Centre. As a retired teacher, I worked for many years in a building made up of bricks from bombed houses in the Second World War.
“It is so, that I fully understand the need for doctors and nurses to work in a better environment and for the patients to receive their treatment in a modern and thoughtful setting.
“Having visited the Oncology Unit, I was made aware of the tremendous professionalism, care and support that the staff have for their patients and the need for a better environment for all the people who work, are cared for and visit the Unit.
“We are very much looking forward to supporting the Appeal with this worthy cause, and we look forward to the day we will be welcomed through the doors of a pioneering new Cancer Centre.”
