Police in Bath are appealing for information to trace a white Ford Transit scaffolding van after an elderly man was charged nearly £7000 for roofing work.

Officers believe the van and its occupants may be involved in other so-called rogue trader cases across the Bath area, and in Devon and Cornwall, where homeowners were persuaded to pay large amounts for shoddy or unfinished work.

The 85-year-old Bath man called the scaffolding company to fix his leaking roof at the end of March.

Five men arrived in the Ford van and a blue Peugeot estate car on the morning of 28th March. They told him the work was worse than first thought and he agreed to pay two cheques totalling £6,950.

When they left, after five days, he found that the roof was still leaking but was unable to contact the company again to ask them to return.

Anyone who recognises the van from the CCTV photos, or who may have had building work done by people in a similar vehicle, is asked to call Bath police on 101 quoting crime reference number 41176/14.
