Bath Spa University is set to host the launch of new writing magazine Granta’s Britain edition at Bath’s Guildhall on Wednesday 16 May at 6.30pm.
The event will take the form of a panel discussion on Visions of Britain hosted by Ellah Allfrey, Deputy Editor of Granta, in conversation with celebrated novelists Tessa Hadley (a senior lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University) and Cynan Jones.
Granta has had a long and distinguished history, publishing many of the world’s finest writers on a wide array of subjects, from intimate human experiences to large public and political events. In the pages of Granta, readers met for the first time writers such as Bill Bryson, Romesh Gunesekera, Blake Morrison, Arundhati Roy and Zadie Smith; and encountered topics as diverse as the fall of Saigon, the mythology of the Titanic, adultery, psychotherapy and Chinese cricket fighting.
The spring 2012 Britain edition of Granta to be launched in Bath next month will feature new writing from a wide range of authors including Mark Haddon, Mario Vargas Llosa, Rachel Seiffert and Cynan Jones, as well as showcasing the work of 20 artists responding to the question of British identity.
Dr Paul Meyer, who runs the undergraduate Creative Writing programme at Bath Spa University, said: “We are thrilled to host this exciting launch event for the spring edition of Granta. It is a highly respected publication and over the years it has played an important role in bringing many talented and challenging new writers to the fore.
“This discussion will bring together two of the UK’s most original and highly praised authors to share insights and opinions about British culture.”
Tickets for the launch event are £4 for the general public, £2 for Bath Spa University staff and students, and £2 for loyalty card holders from Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights, the official bookseller for the launch.
