If you’re using Charlotte Street car park and Avon street car park, from Monday (4th July) there will be a change to the way you are able to pay for your parking while using the council spaces.
The Pay on Foot system and machinery is being decommissioned and replaced on a temporary basis by some Pay and Display machines in Charlotte Street car park. This change will also take place on Monday 25th July at Avon Street car park.
Temporarily changing the system will allow the Council to complete its change to the new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, which will scan the car park users’ number plates, similar to the system used nationwide by the police, and will stop the regular significant costs to replace the increasingly expensive and obsolete parts for the Pay on Foot machines.
The system will work like in some other cities, where when accessing the car park you will be requested to enter your registration number into the council parking system. Once you have finished, you simple re-enter your number into the machines and pay your parking fee. The use of ANPR allows for any fraudulent activity and people not paying to be reduced and dealt with efficiently.
