The shortlist for the Business Startups Awards 2012 has been released and local business propertECO has been announced as amongst the finalists.

Based in Bath, propertECO is one of 35 companies from across the country that has been named as a finalist for the Awards and is hoping to win one of the 14 trophies up for grabs at the glittering ceremony in London this December.

The Startups Awards, sponsored by NatWest and organised by Startups.co.uk, celebrate the success of businesses in the UK that have been trading for less than three years.

propertECO has been shortlisted for the Trades Start-up of the Year category along with two other companies. propertECO, who won Innovative Start Up of the Year at the recent Bath Business Awards 2012, provide a range of specialist building services aimed at making properties more sustainable. The company’s biggest area of work is radon gas testing & remediation, something that is particularly relevant in Bath as the area is classified as a ‘radon affected area’ by the Health Protection Agency. The company began trading in July 2011 and has rapidly gained a large client base of both domestic and commercial customers.

Duncan Bannatyne, of Dragons’ Den fame, will lead the judging panel alongside a number of other highly successful entrepreneurs and business experts including James Hurley, enterprise editor for the Daily Telegraph and Kevin Byrne, managing director of checkatrade.com.

David Lester, founder of Startups.co.uk, commented: “We are delighted with the response to this year’s Awards. We received hundreds of entries from an incredibly diverse range of companies.

“The final shortlist really is a fantastic example of the prosperous and highly successful start-up businesses we have here in the UK. Congratulations to all the companies who have made it this far and good luck for the Awards ceremony!”

The full shortlist is available online; please visit www.startupsawards.co.uk to see the complete list of finalists.

This year’s winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Kensington Roof Gardens, on Friday 7th December 2012.
