Work is to start on the initial stages of Bath’s first casino in Sawclose in the summer, the developers have confirmed.
The £14 million project will begin mid-summer, with the demolition of some of the area as well as archaeological investigations at the site.
Building work on the project is not expected to start until the end of the year, with an estimated completion date in the summer of 2016.
Developer Deeley Freed’s planning consultant Chris Hays said they were pleased to have reached such a milestone and are looking forward to starting construction once a number of legal and contractual aspects had been sorted.
Bath and North East Somerset Council granted planning permission for the casino last Wednesday at a planning meeting.
The plans also include a hotel to be built on the 0.7 acre site.
A number of buildings in Sawclose will need to be demolished to make way for the new development, including the former family planning clinic and a large section of the Gala Bingo hall.
The development will also see the loss of the public car park, often used by visitors to the Mineral Water Hospital, and the private car park to the rear of the site.
