As Bath prepares to mark the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the city is getting ready to host 44 street parties and events.
Celebrations will take place throughout the extended bank holiday weekend, both public and private, with residents able to enjoy a range of festivities.
Bath Abbey will host a Royal Celebration Concert on 5th May, followed by a live broadcast of the Coronation the next day.
The Abbey will also offer special services on 7th May with a drop-in family craft activity on 8th May.
Free events will be available at Bath & North East Somerset Council libraries on 6th May, including crown making, nature trails, and a chance to contribute to a Coronation community garden made from recycled materials.
Among the public events taking place are the King’s Coronation Street Party, held at the Raven of Bath pub on 6th May, Batheaston Coronation Street Party at Riverside Park on 7th May, and the Keynsham Picnic in the Park at Keynsham Memorial Park on 7th May.
Bath & North East Somerset Council has waived road closure application fees and provided residents with advice and guidance to ensure safe and successful celebrations.
Mandy Bishop, Chief Operating Officer, said: “The Coronation weekend is a fantastic opportunity for our communities to come together and celebrate this historic occasion.
“We’re delighted to have been able to approve the applications for many street parties and support people who are giving up their time to create memorable events for their neighbours. That’s what community is all about.
“We are also pleased to be offering free events at our libraries for people of all ages. We look forward to seeing the fun unfold as Bath and North East Somerset turns red, white and blue.”
The Coronation takes place on 6th May at Westminster Abbey, followed by the Coronation Big Lunch on 7th May, which is an invitation for neighbours and communities to share food and fun together.
The extra bank holiday on 8th May provides an opportunity for people to try volunteering for themselves.
