Road closed after double-decker bus driven into Twerton railway bridge

A junction between the A36 Lower Bristol Road and Twerton High Street was closed yesterday evening, Thursday 4th May, after a bus was driven into a railway bridge.

Significant damage was caused to the front of the double-decker First bus, with police directing traffic away from the scene.

It is believed at least one passenger received minor injuries in the crash, which occurred at around 6.30pm.

An investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances.

The bus was operating on the U5 Bath Spa University route at the time of the crash.

Trains going over the bridge were temporarily suspended following the incident, however were able to run again following an inspection by Network Rail.

The road is believed to have reopened at around 8.30pm.
