Bike Bath, the cycling event which sees over 1,000 participants come together to take on three challenging but beautiful routes through the countryside round the city, will return on Sunday 2nd July.
The event offers routes of 25, 50 and 80 miles for riders of all levels, feed stations stocked with local produce, and a bustling event village in the city centre.
It’s staged with the support of a number of local businesses including Hawke Ridge Business Park, which will also be the venue for one of the rest stations on the route.
Past participants in the ride include Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams, who returns as the event’s women’s ambassador for 2017, and Modern Pentathlon silver medallist Heather Fell who is currently training for a number of tough cycling challenges as the newest member of the Cannondale Girls cycling team.
Heather said: “I caught the cycling bug four years ago and Bike Bath was one of my first sportive events I entered. I was overwhelmed by the wonderful atmosphere created by the organisers and the other cyclists.
“The routes around this beautiful area are certainly enough to distract tired legs. I can’t wait to tackle the hills and enjoy the scenery again.”
As well as the spectacular riding in Bath and Wiltshire, the event features the best of local food and drink, including Bath Cheese, Marshfield Bakery flapjacks and a post ride bar from long-time supporters Bath Ales.
Karin Ashwell, head of marketing at Bath Ales, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Bike Bath once again. Bath Ales has been involved from the event’s inception and it’s great it continues to grow.
“With the countdown now officially on let’s hope this year attracts more cyclists than ever.
We’ll look forward to welcoming riders over the finish line and celebrating with a much-deserved pint of Gem at the end.
The event also raises funds for a number of local charities. Riders can donate to Dorothy House Hospice when they register, raising over £4,000 for the charity in 2016.
Homeless charity Julian House Bike Workshop have a number of discounted places available for riders, as well as being on hand at the event village to provide riders with free bike tune-ups.
To register for a Julian House charity place, contact Stephen Chesworth at [email protected] or call 07989 055432. You can also enjoy a free bike safety check at one of Julian House Bike Workshop’s three branches.
