A team of 47 students from Bath Spa University will be bringing Christmas cheer to the streets of Bath this December as they entertain locals with their rendition of A Christmas Carol.
As part of a collaboration between OnSet – the University’s production company – LAStheatre and Visit Bath, final year students from the University’s BA Acting and BA Theatre Production courses will be joined by those from the MA Creative Producing course to host a Dickensian ode to Bath.
Performances will be taking place at 6pm and 8pm from 7th-9th and 12th-16th December.
Kerry Irvine, Senior Lecturer in Acting at Bath Spa University and Producer of OnSet, said: “I’m delighted to say that following last year’s critically acclaimed sell-out success, Christmas at Newton Park, our talented students are back once again with a joyful, festive tale for all ages.
“Students will be putting what they’ve learnt on their courses into practice, to bring a truly unique experience to the streets of Bath at this magical time of year.
“In their final year of study, our Acting and Theatre Production students become members of OnSet productions, a professionally-run company that produces work across a range of live and recorded media.
“This year they are also supported by students on the MA Creative Producing course and we’re all very excited to be taking to the centre of Bath, to give audiences an immersive glimpse into our theatrical take on the world of Charles Dickens, and his festive masterpiece.”
The students have spent weeks developing, rehearsing and designing the show which will see Scrooge meet spectres from Christmases past, present and future, as they meander through popular streets including Bath Abbey Court, Swallow Street and Abbey Gate Street.
Daniel Lewis-Jones, Creative Producing student at Bath Spa said: “The whole cast is really looking forward to bringing the spirit of Dickensian Christmas to life with this performance and we can’t wait to offer something new to Bath.
“We’d like to remind everyone to keep an eye out for benevolent spirits and phantoms wandering the streets this December as we deliver a hopeful message of what it is to reflect on one’s life, and put on a production that is sure to entertain all.”
Tickets can be purchased online from the Bath Box Office and are priced £7-£14. The performance is child-friendly and the running time is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Ticket holders are invited to meet outside the Bath Visitor Information Centre.
On 8th December, performances will be British Sign Language interpreted and a touch tour is also available on this day at 5.15pm.
