A band of rain will arrive from the southwest on Thursday afternoon, 31st January, and forecasters say it will quickly turning to snow and become heavy at times.

3 to 7cm is likely to accumulate quickly, within two to three hours, with up to 10cm in some places.

The highest snowfall accumulations are likely to be in areas above 150 metres.

The warning, for between 2pm and 9pm, has been issued for Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the surrounding counties.

A yellow weather warning is also in force for the area until tomorrow, Friday 1st February, at 1pm for snow and ice, with the possibility of travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers, and the chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

The Met Office has provided advice on how to prepare for cold weather, including keeping warm and driving in wintry conditions. You can find out more here.
