Residents are being warned to expect severe delays on the roads in and around Bath this weekend as a number of large events take place.
Tomorrow (Saturday) will see the University of Bath hold an open day, the Jane Austen festival continue, a Bath Rugby match and a civil war re-enactment in the city.
The last Bath Uni open day in June caused major problems with traffic in Bath, causing gridlocks and queuing traffic across the area.
The Jane Austen Festival is set to hold their Grand Regency Promenade during the day and Bath Rugby will be playing against Leicester Tigers at the Rec.
The American Museum will be holding a civil war re-enactment on Saturday and Sunday, with an additional festival being held up at Bath Racecourse.
To help control the increase of traffic for the open day at the University they have been liaising with the Council and First Bus. Dedicated bus services will be running from Lansdown and Odd Down’s park and rides to the Claverton campus, alongside the standard buses.
A spokesman from the University of Bath said that they do appreciate the strain that is caused on local roads by the open day, but they have been working hard to minimise the impact.
The open day is a chance for prospective students to come to Bath and view the popular university. They are able to experience what is on offer as well as find out more about the local area.
The event, held at the Claverton campus between 9am – 4pm, is expected to bring in up to 10,000 people, bringing a solid mass of additional traffic to the major routes in and out of Bath.
Routes heading into and out of Bath became jammed in June, with the A46 having stationary traffic all the way back to Cold Ashton and towards J18 of the M4.
The Park & Ride provisions set up by the University also became full at 11.45am. After that, the University advised visitors to head for the campus to park, which created additional traffic around the A36 and up towards the campus.
People faced queues of up to 45 minutes on roads in and around the area, as well as being caught in 3 1/2 mile queues along the Warminster Road.
