It has been announced that the head teacher at a Bath school which received a damning Ofsted report after an inspection in December is currently on sick leave.
Kim Sparling, the head of Oldfield School in Bath, is absent from her post and her deputy Matthew Woodville has stepped in to take on her role.
The announcement was made yesterday in a post on the Oldfield School website by new Chairman of Governors Stuart Weatherall.
The statement said: “You may be aware that the Head teacher, has been away from the school due to sickness.
“During her absence the Deputy Head teacher, Matthew Woodville, will continue as acting Head teacher.
“He has my full confidence, as do the remainder of the school’s Senior Leadership Team and staff.”
Oldfield School has been at the centre of controversy after a recent Ofsted inspection was leaked online by a children’s charity.
Ofsted had issued a limited section eight report about their inspection, but had not publicly published their full report.
During the Ofsted visit, the official body said it received a number of complaints from members of staff at the school, but some of those had fallen “outside its remit”.
Inspectors reported that the “quality of leadership and management” needed improvement.
The Department for Education (DfE) has been carrying out an investigation into the leadership of Oldfield, and the Education Funding Agency is also set to release a report next month on their own findings after a recent visit.
A public meeting was held on Wednesday evening, for parents to find out more about what was happening at the school as well as giving them the chance to question governors on the next steps they are taking.
It is believed that over 100 parents attended.
