Bath Rugby Foundation has announced that ‘Get Active into Work’, its employability programme, will resume in September following a £20,000 award from the People’s Postcode Trust.
Get Active into Work, a twelve week programme for people aged 16 plus not in employment, training or education (NEETS), includes a Level 2 in Community Sport Leadership award as well as money management, project planning and a first aid course.
Suitable candidates will be supported to go on to take their Level 2 coaching qualifications.
The course is tutored by Foundation Inclusion Manager Caryl Thomas and coaches from Bath Rugby Foundation.
It involves two days a week of training and mentoring for 8 weeks, followed by a work placement with either the Council or other partner organisations.
Caryl Thomas said: “We are delighted that the award from People’s Postcode Trust means that this important programme can restart.
“It’s a programme I am very passionate about delivering as I have seen the difference it makes to participants confidence and life skills.
“Ultimately the course is about three main things – progression into jobs, education and training; qualifications, and improved health and wellbeing.
“We want to help people increase their opportunities for development, giving them confidence in themselves.”
Former participant and success story Becks Toan, now employed by Bath Rugby Foundation as an outdoor tryactive coach says that the GAIW programme gave her “a boost in confidence as I had been out of work for a length of time, it also enabled me to gain access to more qualifications and training. In addition, it made me realise which career path I wanted for myself”.
