Sirona Health in Bath are encouraging more local residents to create simple healthy meals that are affordable for everyone.
It may be a few decades since The Good Life was on our TV screens with the characters Tom and Barbara turning their suburban garden into a small holding.
But the principle of using freshly grown produce to create healthy meals is still as valid today.
Now Sirona has issued an open invitation to people to see just how easy it is as staff will be demonstrating how to cook affordable simple healthy meals from fresh produce at the Monksdale Allotments in Bath on Saturday 5th April.
The event, called a Community Soup & Plant lunch, is being held from 12pm until 2pm with a soup on offer created using allotment grown produce.
Plus all who attend will receive a complimentary seasonal recipe booklet created by Bath Spa University student Kimberley Tyler.
The recipes highlight what vegetables are in season according to the month of the year and include mouthwatering delights such as vegetable curry, raspberry muffins and butternut squash pasta
Kimberley, a diet and health student, has worked with Sirona to set up the event and created the recipe book which is packed with tips.
She said “The recipes I’ve chosen are easy to cook, cheap to prepare and most importantly taste really good!”
Lucy Hanney from Sironas’s Healthy Lifestyle team said: “By working with Bath Spa University to create this allotment booklet we hope to encourage more families to try local and seasonal fresh produce which apart from being healthier is cheaper too; if we can encourage people to grow their own vegetables then that’s an added bonus ”.
Visitors will also have the chance to receive vegetable seeds to grow their own plants and Sirona healthy lifestyle advisors will be on hand to offer support on making positive changes to your lifestyle including help with stopping smoking or weight loss alongside doing blood pressure checks.
