Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party, paid a visit to local supporters and members in Bath and North East Somerset earlier this week at a packed event.

The local party now has over 600 members and following the General Election in May returned two new local councillors in Lin Patterson for Lambridge ward and Jonathan Carr for Abbey ward.

The Green Party also achieved electoral success nationally in Bath and North East Somerset with both candidates coming within the top 100 of Green votes in the country, and Dominic Tristram, parliamentary candidate for Bath, achieved the second highest Green vote in the South-West after Bristol West.

The informal event was an opportunity for local members and supporters to pose questions and take photographs with Ms Bennett.

Speaking before the event, Ms Bennett said: “I am looking forward to speaking to local members and supporters after excellent results in the general election was matched by a huge growth in membership in the region.

“I will be talking about our plans for a major campaign on tackling climate change leading up to the Paris talks, the growing push for electoral reform – fuelled by the fact that we have a government now backed by only 24% of eligible voters, and the hugely damaging impact of George Osborne’s slashing of benefits on disabled people, children and the vulnerable.”
